Can You Be Content With Not Knowing an Answer?

June 7th, 2008

NONAME asked:

On The Question Which Has No Answer
or
Not Knowing is Knowing

I do love a good mystery. I am particularly intrigued with questions that stump the masses and cause great thinkers to become better acquainted with their dear friend, insomnia. I am not alone. Eve too was a curious one desiring to know that which she did not know. She was so curious to know certain mysteries that ultimately she disobeyed God’s commandment and ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, (Genesis 3:6).

In a moment’s moment, no longer having faith that what God had already revealed to her was sufficient, she stepped outside of God’s boundaries, thwarted His authority, ignored His many blessings and sought something more, something she alone determined needed discovering. Indeed her eyes were opened, (Genesis 3:7), and she would now live out the rest of her days most likely wishing she no longer knew that which she now knew.

God was not trying to deprive Eve of something she needed. He was not trying to cheat her out of something when He commanded her to not eat of this particular tree. He simply had certain boundaries in place for her protection. We know now that not knowing about evil and of course death was to Eve’s advantage, but her curiosity tugged and pulled until she had gone too far. To be content with ‘not knowing,’ is to be content with our God in heaven who chooses to reveal or not reveal certain mysteries.

Faith! It always comes to this. Does it not? Do I have faith that there is an answer to my question? Do I have faith that should I ever need that answer God will reveal it to me? Do I have faith that God is God? Do I have faith in God?

I am reminded in several verses that God reveals many a mystery on a need-to-know basis. (Colossians 1:26) “The mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints.” (Romans 16:25,26) “…according to the mystery kept secret since the world began, but now has been made manifest.” (Daniel 2:47) Concerning Nebuchadnezzar’s dream; “The king answered Daniel and said; “Truly your God is a revealer of secrets since you could reveal this secret.”

Clearly what God reveals to me is determined by Him and Him alone and has nothing to do with how hard I try to wrestle an answer out of Him. And in the case of Eve and the tree of knowledge, we see that sometimes it is more of a blessing to not know certain mysteries than it is to actually know them. This causes me to pause and wonder. How often is it that I praise God for what I do not know?

God has revealed many great and wonderful mysteries to us, mysteries which are as prolific as the garden of Eden must have been for Eve. Yet my head is often turned from those glorious mysteries revealed, to those that have not yet been revealed. For the sake of what is not, I often miss what is.

I Timothy 3:16 “And without controversy great is the mystery of Godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up in Glory.”

What an amazing verse, I Timothy 3:16! How is it that I continue to miss the fullness of this mystery which God has made known, this truth which showers me with blessing after blessing, day after day, moment after moment? Woe to my soul that a single intrigue could ever turn my heart and head that I might miss the fullness of this glorious mystery revealed in Christ Jesus, that is Christ Jesus. May it never be so.
Oh foolish Eve who’s head did turn
From all God’s blessings ran
For in a moment’s moment yearned
A secret far too grand

Oh foolish Eve who’s head did turn
From God’s authority
For in a moment’s moment changed
All man’s destiny

Oh foolish Eve who’s head did turn
From all God did command
For in a moment’s moment learned
A knowledge you wish you never had

Do You Understand The Magnitude Of This Crisis?

June 7th, 2008

Jesus thinks I am cool! I am His asked:

Magnitude of the Crisis

ATTACK ON A GENERATION
Today’s teens are being attacked by popular culture like no other generation. Hollywood, the music industry, advertisers, and even the mainstream media are using their arsenal of tools to win the battle for our teens’ hearts- and so far they are winning! In order to defeat our enemy, we must know how it thinks and understand the weapons it uses. It is critical that we realize how far-reaching the crisis is- and then we must work together to stop it.

TELEVISION
This generation views 16 to 17 hours of television each week and sees on average 14,000 sexual scenes and references each year. That’s more than 38 references every day.

INTERNET
This generation spends three hours a day online and is the first to grow up with point-and-click pornography. Almost 90 percent of teens have viewed pornography online at one of the 300,000 adult websites, most while doing homework.

MUSIC
More than 25 percent of teen-targeted radio segments contain sexual content; 42 percent of the top selling CDs contain sexual content

ADVERTISING
With more than $128 billion dollars in their pockets, this generation has been targeted by corporate America, who does everything it can to grow brands and profits without any regard to the moral decay of a generation.

Why do many young people today not seem to appreciate all people do for them and why are they not willing to?

Smiley asked:

just be average? Average looking, have average wages etc etc

I guess from my older vantage it just seems sometimes many younger people seem to want want want.. get their happiness from material goods..want to be stunning, want to earn lots and lots ££ etc etc

Whereas just 2 generations ago just having a house/job/family life were considered to be being rich and my Grandparents always seemed so so content.. whereas kids today seem so unhappy/disatisfied at times.

Do you love your elders?

I am kind of disgusted with how we treat our elders in this country. As far as I am concerned the very fact that a person has SURVIVED 65 years in this world is commendable by itself. What is disgusting is the conditions in which we expect our direct founders, (from a personal level inside the family, to a governmental level of overall impact, and then as to their economic impact), live out their days. Now in my personal experience with relatives mixed in with a slight stereotype of the depression generation, most don’t expect huge luxuries, they are content to live modestly even with the means for more, yet there are those that do not even have the basic comforts.
The reality is that all of us are going to be there someday, that I can guarantee you. Have you ever heard the phrase “treat others as you would wish to be treated?” That is as old as the hills and twice as dusty, and we have homeless senior citizens? We have seniors on fixed incomes that are experiencing ever increasing costs of medication and treatment. Not being able to receive the best medical care because of their financial situation.

There of course is no one solution to such a complex issue as elder care. With the reality of today’s family, there is no time to take care of the folks, and along with that even though both are working there is no extra money, so choices are made. Some proud seniors will choose situations that they know would be potentially dangerous (such as living alone with congestive heart failure issues, etc) in order not to be a burden on their families.
I guess the point I am making is that this is just the beginning. The baby boomers aren’t quite there yet but they will be soon enough. There is a lot of talk about the “strain” that is accepted will happen. Well it isn’t just a “strain” my friend, it is the straw that will break the camels back.

I could say that most people worry to some degree what is going to happen in the future. It is a lot harder to save for the future then investment company commercials would have you believe. I think everyone would be much more productive and happy as a nation if we had a real parachute for seniors.

I am not talking about anything huge, but we should be prepared to house and provide care for everyone, regardless. I think that when someone hits 65, they should have 100% medical coverage from top to bottom, prescriptions, transportation, care, everything.
It would be much more cost effective for us to build housing and utilize it than it would be for us to pump enough money into the social security system to compensate for inflation in order to provide a living for our seniors.

Build nice facilities, where seniors maintain the dignity of their lives with all the modern amenities, individual apartments and comfortable furniture. Like a mixture between a hospital and a hotel. Run an operating hospital from part of the facility to make it a profit center, and provide medical care to the residents. Run the living area like a 5 star hotel, concierge service, room service, entertainment, etc.

We only have to build it once, it will create millions of jobs, and we have the resources to do it if we maybe just stay out of the next war.

Why is my cat vomiting repeatedly?

June 3rd, 2008

Jewel asked:

I just got a young (approximately 1 y/o) female F4 (fourth generation removed from the Asian Leopard Cat) Bengal cat two days ago. She has been adjusting remarkably, and is especially enjoying walks outside on her leash. I took her to the vet today for a checkup, and she got the clean bill of health.

But I decided to leave her alone for a few hours because she seemed content. I left her at 6:00pm, and checked on her at 9:00pm. When I came in, I found her under the bed (she’s taken it up as her hiding place, and comes out whenever called), but then she started gagging, like a hairball was stuck or something. I picked her up, and put her on the hardwood floor. She vomited. It was full liquid (no hair, no chunks), and mostly clear, but obviously vomit. Decided to keep a better eye on her. Came back after half an hour, and there was more on the carpet. And again at 10. She is acting a little nervous, but otherwise fine.

Is it just her being nervous?
Also, she is eating and drinking fine, and is getting the exact same food she had in the last home (at least for now).

2. Social heritage/ Tradition.

- The distinctive way of life of a group of people; their complete design for living.

Culture, in other words, includes both behaviour (act) and the material outcomes of that behaviour (artifact). It occurs within the constraints of nature, social conditions,, and other realities of human existence.

Definitions and discussions of culture tend to reflect the theoretical perspectives and purposes of the definers.
